This was a while after dark one February Friday in the dusty cemetery surrounding the mosque and mausoleum of Hamid El Nil, a sheikh who died 3 gens ago. The Sufi order is called Al Qudeeria Al Arakia, and is now led by Sheikh Abdullah, one o the many grandsons of Hamid El Nil. It's a pity you can't see the quickening procession around the circle, the few guys spinning, or about 40 all start jumping in unison about 20 minutes in.
Many of the participants dress in green and red robes, while white jalabiyas are pretty common (as usual). There was a group of women to my right, who you can hear ululating later on. I'm told by a sufi pal here that many of the followers are graduates, some university professors, etc.
These things give you a really good feeling, and folk let go in a way you rarely see (outside a home, at least) elsewhere.

The pic's a dervish on the 11th night of the moulid, (celebrations before Mohammed's birth, late March this year) Omdurman, near the Mahdi's tomb. (Not from Hamid)
